NEW-YORK TIMES, Feb. 3, 1860  The front page has: "Calamitous Fire" "Tenement House on Elm-street Destroyed" "Thirty Persons supposed to have Perished in the Flames". The detailed report takes up much of the last column.
According to Kanes Famous First Facts, this fatal fire resulted in legislation requiring tenements to have fire escapes.
Other news of the day includes: "From Missouri" "Chamber Of Commerce" "The Harper's Ferry Insurgents" "Our Frontier Regions" and much more.
