February 25, 1862

DAILY DISPATCH, Richmond, Virginia, Feb. 25, 1862

* William Wallace "Willie" Lincoln death
* President Jefferson Davis proclamation
* From the capital of the Confederacy

Not only is this a nice newspaper from the Confederacy, but from the capital of the Confederate States. The front page has many reports on the Civil War including: "Northern War News" with many subheads such as: "Yankee Women Begging Under False Pretenses--A Confederate Vessel at Kingston, Jamaica--The Condition of Things in Western Virginia--A Hard Yankee Yarn..." and more. Also reporting from: "The Federal Congress".
There is much war reporting on the inside pages as well including the always-interesting editorial, this one headed: "Fresh Courage--Vigorous Action" (see for beginning). Other items include: "Further Intelligence from Tennessee" "Death of Old Abe's Son" "Conduct of the War" "The Losses on Both Sides" "The Secretary of War" and there is even on page 2 a: "Proclamation by the President" signed in type: Jefferson Davis (see photos). A great wealth of ads throughout, some military related.
Four pages, never been bound nor trimmed, various folds, some dirtiness, and some fold wear (affecting a few words in the J. Davis Proclamation--see).
