CHARLESTON DAILY COURIER, South Carolina, Feb. 28, 1862

* From the origin of the Civil War

This was one of just a few newspapers which printed in the masthead: "Confederate States of America" (see).
Among the front page war-related reports are: "Confederate Congress--Confirmation of Brigadier-Generals--Bill for a Commanding General Introduced" "Proclamation of Martial Law in Norfolk, Portsmouth, etc." "From Norfolk--Later from the United States" "Trade in New Orleans" "United States Consuls in the Confederate States" "Re-Enlistment for the War" "The Crisis" "The Situation in the West" "The Women of the South" and other smaller items.
The back page has: "The Scenes of a Yankee March". Page 3 is entirely taken up with ads and page 2 has a mix of news items and ads, including: "Our Position and Our Defenses" which includes: "...Our brave, wise-headed and wise-hearted General, Robert E. Lee...feels every assurance of his ability to defend Charleston against any force now at the disposal of the enemy..." (see); "Dunovant's Regiment" & other smaller items.
Four pages, mild fold wear & foxing, generally nice condition.
