Edison's phonograph... Oil regions of Pennsylvania... Morgan Silver Dollar...

Item # 697728

March 30, 1878

HARPER'S WEEKLY, New York, March 30, 1878

* Historic Phonograph invention
* Thomas Edison - inventor

The full front page is a Thomas Nast political cartoon: "Fulfill Your Promises" and a fullpg. inside has another Nast political cartoon: "Our Uncle's 'Honor' Touched" showing Uncle Sam.
The great, tipped-in (no binding holes), doublepage centerfold: 'The Oil Regions of Pennsylvania' shows 11 scenes and is very displayable. The feature scene is an overview of the town of Oil City.
There is a nice illustration of the front and back of: "The New Silver Dollar" with an article as well (the Morgan silver dollar).
But the prime content in this issue is the great full page of illustrations on: "The Phonograph" showing the new machine and how it is used. Also an article which is very descriptive, and reads in part: "...The telephone, which created such a sensation a short time ago...is now eclipsed by a new wonder called the phonograph. This little instrument records the utterance of the human voice and like a faithless confidante repeats every secret confided to it...The gentleman who has the honor of being its inventor is Professor Thomas A. Edison, the famous electrician...'. Terrific & historic reading.
Sixteen pages plus the 4 page Supplement, great condition.
