THE DETROIT FREE PRESS, June 28, 1945
* USS Bunker Hill - Essex-class aircraft carrier
* Invasion of Okinawa - Kamikazes attack
The front page has a two column heading: "Jap Bombs Kill 373 on Carrier" with subhead: "Fire-Ravaged Bunker Hill Saved by Crew; Back in U.S. for Repairs" Four nice photos are on the back page. (see) First report coverage on the Japanese kamikaze attacks on the USS Bunker Hill during the invasion of Okinawa. Reporting on many disasters such as this were kept from the public, sometimes for many months, until the family members of the killed were all notified, giving the reason for this late report. Still a first report here.
Complete with all 18 pages, light toning and minor wear at the margins, small library stamp within the masthead, generally nice.
