October 04, 1867

NEW YORK HERALD, Oct. 4, 1867  Inside under "THE NATIONAL GAME" is a report with subhead: "...Excelsior (Colored) v. Unique (Colored)".
Within the lengthy report is: "...The game alluded to was none other than a match game for the 'colored championship' of the United States...arrived in this city...received by a delegation of gentleman of the colored persuasion...headed by fifes & drums they were marched around the city..." with much more.
The box score of the game is included as well.
Early and uncommon for a report about a game between two "colored" clubs not long after the American Civil War. This page has a few printing creases in unrelated content, otherwise in good condition. Complete with 12 pages.
