THE LIBERATOR, Boston, Dec. 11, 1863
* Rare anti-slavery title
* Much on colored troops
This is the famous anti-slavery newspaper by famed abolitionist publisher William Lloyd Garrison. The masthead features two engravings, one of a slave auction and the other showing slaves being emancipated.
Page three features a report titled: "The Arrival of Colored Troops" which is an interesting article with some candid comments. In general this is a very positive article on the introduction of African-American soldiers in the Civil War. See the photos for the full text. Fascinating reading.
Also in this issue is: "An Order From General Butler In Regard to Colored Troops" which begins: "General Butler has issued a lengthy order relative to colored troops, the effect of which is to call upon male negroes to fight for the freedom of their race..." with more. There is another report: "Losses in the Nine Months' Regiments" which provides some statistics.
Four pages, great condition.
