A quite scarce newspaper from shortly after the Battle of New Bern (fought March 14) when the city fell to the Yankees. It would remain in Yankee control for the remainder of the Civil War.
It contains a wealth of content on the war with the front page including: "Enough" "Parson Brownlow in Cincinnati" "Marriageable Girls" "The Pilots of Hatteras Inlet" "Spiking the Enemy's Guns" & more. Inside has: "The Recent Battles" includes mention of the Battle of Shiloh & more. Other war-related items and several dispatches from the military.
Printed on a necessity-type paper somewhat like wrapping paper, this is clarified with a pg. 2 item: "Having received our printing paper, we shall resume our old proportions & issue our paper next Wednesday morning, and on & after that date daily...". It was previously of a larger size and had "Daily" in the title.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, very nice, clean condition.
