November 01, 1774

THE LONDON MAGAZINE, England, November, 1774

* Pre-Revolutionary War tensions

Inside has most of a page taken up with a letter beginning: "Of all sciences that of politics is the most intricate, and there is no political subject of greater importance to Great Britain and the colonies than that of taxation...". And then the letter turns to non-importation: "...Between the mother country & her colonies the following rule ought to be sacred, that with respect to commodities wanted, each of them should prefer the other before all other nations...".
At the back over half a page is taken up with: "American Affairs" with a letter from New York. It reports the non-importation agreement agreed to at Boston with encouragement that all other towns & colonies would join in non-importation of British goods. But: "...I am afraid the recommendation of the congress...will not be unanimously and faithfully kept...the colonies will never put any faith in the town of Boston..." with more.
The report carries over to page 2. There is loss at the bottom of the leaf causing some word loss here (see photos).
An interesting feature is the full title/contents page which has a very intricately engraved view of the skyline of London at the time, making this very decorative.
The foldout sheet music is present, the other 2 plates are lacking.
Complete in 52 pages, 5 1/4 by 8 1/2 inches, very nice condition.
