THE CONNECTICUT COURANT & WEEKLY INTELLIGENCER, Hartford, August 7, 1781 One-third of the front page is taken up with a fine letter prefaced: "The following is an account of the late operations of the army in Virginia, under the command of Lieutenant-General Earl Cornwallis...", the text including some details of the Battle of Spencer's Ordinary.
This is followed by a report of events in Connecticut.
Page 2 begins with an extract of a letter from General Greene concerning the Siege of Ninety-Six in South Carolina, with much detail.
Then a detailed & lengthy letter signed in type by: La Fayette to General Greene concerning the historic Battle of Green Spring, Virginia, Cornwallis's last major battle in Virginia before his surrender at Yorktown. Also: "We are assured that Lord Cornwallis has detached the whole of his cavalry...under Col. Tarleton for South Carolina. It is supposed Cornwallis intends to embark with the remainder of his army for New York..." with more, including; "...inform us that after Lord Rawdon had returned to Ninety-Six, he reinforced that garrison with 100 men & then retired towards Charlestown..." with more.
There is then a report from Albany of military events, followed by a letter from the army at Dobb's Ferry and then another from Albany, the latter noting: "We have just heard that the enemy have evacuated Ninety-Six---That Cornwallis has divided his troops, part to be returned to New York & part to reinforce their debilitated troops in South Carolina."
