THE NEW YORK TIMES, August 16, 1939

* The Wizard of Oz
* Opening day advertisement (eve)
* Judy Garland and more

Page 21 has an historic advertisement in early film history. See photos for a 14 x 5 inch ad for the premiere of "The Wizard of Oz" in New York City. This was the day before the opening for this famous movie. Nice graphical appeal with this ad. (see) New York City was one of the first cities to release this film making this ad rare as such.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day with reporting on the tensions in pre World War II Europe. Complete in 46 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. A little spine residue from disbinding, otherwise in very nice condition.
