THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, May, 1737  Near the back is a section headed: "Historical Chronicle" with news from England & other parts of Europe. Included is a nice report: "From Georgia" beginning: "Extract of the Rev. Mr. John Wesley's Journal, minister of Savannah, containing a conference had with some of the Chickasaw Indians shewing what a deep & habitual sense of a divine providence is imprinted on the minds of those ignorant heathens & how excellently they are prepared to receive the Gospel..." with more, taking over a full page (see photos for portions).
Among other articles noted in the table of contents are: "Justice & Goodness of God stand Firmest on Non-Prescience" "Judas the First Bishop" "A Scotch Original Letter" "Acquisitions on the Continent dangerous to England" "Joan of Arc an Impostress" "Saying of a Quaker of the Resurrection of the Body" and more.
No plates or maps are called for.
Complete in 60 pages, 5 by 8 inches, very good condition.

A very nice pre-Revolutionary War magazine from the "mother country" with a wide range of varied content. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.
