November 17, 1928

THE NEW YORK TIMES, November 17, 1928

* Wall Street boom - stock market
* Record day in shares exchanged

The top of the front page has a one column heading: "6,641,250 SHARE DAY SHATTERS ALL MARKS FOR STOCK EXCHANGE" with subheads. (see)
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 40 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Irregular along the spine, otherwise very nice.

wikipedia notes: A panic on Wall Street caused stocks to plunge by as many as 40 points, as a record 4,820,840 shares changed hands. The fall was triggered by mass selling of shares in aircraft companies.
