Fine coverage of the fall of Richmond, the capital of the Confederacy. Keep in mind that this was a racist newspaper in the North, calling itself: "An Anti-Abolition Democratic Paper For White Men" on the back page. So all reporting has this bias.
Page 5 begins with column heads: "Evacuation of Richmond" "Three Days' Fighting" "Capture of Artillery And Prisoners" "Confederate Iron-Clads Blown Up" "Heavy Losses on Both Sides" 'Partial Details of the Fighting" "Sherman Still At Goldsboro". Extensive coverage here taking most of the page with many subheads and no fewer than 6 dispatches signed in type: A. Lincoln.
