May 15, 1865

NEW YORK TRIBUNE, May 15, 1865  The first column of the front page has some very nice heads in larger type than normal announcing the capture of the President of the Confederacy, Jeff Davis, including: "HIGHLY IMPORTANT" "THE CAPTURE OF JEFF. DAVIS" "He is Surprised at Irwinsville, Ga., on the 10th" "Jeff. Tries to Escape in Women's Clothes" "A Painful Mistake" and more. Plus there is a ftpg. article headed: "The Assassination" with courtroom testimony taking over 3 columns--interesting reading.
There are further reports and headlines on page 6 as well, with the heading: "The Assassination" "The Trial of the Conspirators" and more. Page 5 includes: "Surrender of Dick Taylor" "The Terms Granted" "Union Occupation of Montgomery" "Quarrels of Rebel Officers" "Kirby Smith on Lee's Surrender".
Eight pages, tiny binding holes at the blank spine margin, very nice, clean condition.
