The front page has a five column photo with heading: "An Explosion in the Sky--Then Flaming Death for 32" with subhead: "32 Dead Taken From Canyon After Crash". (see) First report coverage on the 1948 Los Gatos DC-3 crash in which killed many Mexicans being sent back to Mexico. This plane crash inspired the protest song "Deportee" by Woody Guthrie.

Complete in 64 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Minor margin wear, nice condition.
