March 25, 1966

THE SPRINGFIELD UNION, Massachusetts, March 25, 1966

* Supreme Court rules poll taxes are unconstitutional...
* Ann Arbor, Washtenaw County, Michigan
* UFO craze - flying saucers ?

Page 8 has the landmark Supreme Court decision in the case of Harper vs. Virginia in which Poll Taxes were declared unconstitutional. The National Constitution center would later state (not in this issue): [with this ruling] "We eliminate the "poll tax", a last vestige of Jim Crow." Very historic.

In other, quite contrasting news, the front page has: "Well, This Proves What", being the heading of a photo of what appear to be UFO's flying in the night sky over Ann Arbor, Michigan. Additional supporting text is included and continues on page eight. This event was related to what is described as "The Michigan UFO Craze of 1966".

Other news, sports and advertisements of the day are found throughout. Complete in 50 pages, a few non-archival mends, but overall nice condition.
