August 21, 1862

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, Aug. 21, 1862

* Rare rebel title

A very nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy, filled with the latest war news as all battle reports found their way to Richmond, and the awaiting press. The front page has much on "McClellan's Movements" (partially obscured by dirtiness: see), and also has: "From the Rapidan" "Narrow Escape" "The courts" "City Intelligence" "Butler's Rule In New Orleans" " and the printing of many Acts from the Confederate Congress, including: "An Act to Punish Drunkenness in the Army" and "An Act for the Enlistment of Cooks in the Army" & many more.
The back page has the always interesting editorial, this one beginning: "The enemy fancy they have discovered a grave mistake in their post military policy. Their  favorite plan of surrounding us on all sides & crushing us to death, as with the folds of an anaconda, is now abandoned. The disaster they have suffered are all ascribed to the fallacy of this plan..." with much more. Also on the bkpg: "The So-Called United States" as well as much reporting from "The Confederate Congress".
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a banner masthead, dirtiness & foxing to the ftpg. does obscure some text, a printing crease near the top distracts but causes no loss of type. Never bound nor trimmed.
