Near the back is a letter of thanks signed in type by: Cornwallis, concerning a letter of congratulations from the House of Commons on his victory in the colonies (likely Guilford Court House). This is followed by a letter from New York which includes: "We have lately taken another rebel; mail...Sir Henry Clinton knows the state of the rebels, as well as if Washington himself were to write on the subject to him for the express purpose of giving him full information...contained several letters from Washington to Congress & his confidential friends. They all represent the rebel affairs as in a deplorable situation, which is the real truth...that 22 towns in the Massachusetts's Bay...to propose a pacification with Great Britain..." with more.
On the back page is a note: "..letter from an officer under the command of Lord Cornwallis in Carolina, says, 'We have paid very dear for the late advantage gained over the rebels, as we have lost many of our best officers, & a great number of men...so that our army is much reduced. It was the most bloody battle that has been fought since the American war first broke out..." with more (see photos). This is concerning the "victory" of the British a Guilford Court House, the great loss causing the British to abandon their plans to control the Carolinas.
Eight pages, 8 1/4 by 11 1/4 inches, very nice condition.
