Page 2 has a letter from New York with war-related news including: "...account from Staten Island today, the revolted Jersey brigade is said to be disbanded...together with the revolt of the Pennsylvania line makes a dissolution in the continental army of about sixteen or 1700 men; a number they will scarcely be able to recruit again...Washington cannot at present command an army of more than 2000 men in all, & this will probably waste away to nothing before the 1st of May...they must have the command of hard cash, if they cannot do this, it is most probable the game is up with them..." with much more (see images).
Another page has most of a column taken up with: "Extract of a Letter from a Gentleman in Virginia to his Friend in Philadelphia, dated Fredericksburg, Jan. 8" which begins: "The enemy came to Richmond on Friday at two o'clock in the forenoon with 1500 infantry...they destroyed public stores, burnt the public buildings..." and "The British forces, which lately embarked at New York, have landed in Virginia. We hear that Major-General Philips commands on this expedition although it is said Brigadier-General Arnold acts as a principal officer."
Eight pages, 8 1/4 by 11 1/4 inches, great condition.
