Certainly one of the less common titles from the Confederate States. This publisher was controversial concerning his thoughts on the Confederacy during the Civil War, resulting in Georgia troops sacking his print shop in 1863. The front page seems to have much on politics but also has much on he war as well, with: "The Latest News" reporting much on Robert E. Lee's movements, etc., from just prior to the Battle of Cold Harbor. Also included is a note signed in type: J. Longstreet concerning his injury: "From Gen. Longstreet" datelined Lynchburg, May 18: "...My wound is severe, but not dangerous. It is through the neck & shoulder. I am improving." (see)
Inside has much on the war, including: "Gen. Robert E. Lee" "North Carolina in the Recent Battles" "several letters from the war front; "27th North Carolina Troops" "Official Dispatch from Gen. Lee" concerning the Battle of Cold Harbor, signed by him in type: R. E. Lee (see), followed by another signed by him as well. Also an historic report: "Battlefield of Cold Harbor" "From Georgia" "Tribute of Respect" with much more on the war as well.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, several folds, some wear at folds causing small tears and loss to just a few words. A rare title with terrific content.
