June 28, 1944

THE NEW YORK TIMES, June 28, 1944.

* Post D-Day France being occupied by U.S. Army
* World War II German defense falling apart
* Cherbourg France falls to the allies

The front page has a banner headline: "CHERBOURG HANDED TO FRENCH, REPAIR BEGINS" with subheads and related photo. (see) More inside including pictorial. (see) Loads of text. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day with much more on World War II. Complete in 36 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Very nice condition.
