May 31, 1928

THE NEW YORK TIMES, May 31, 1928

* Indianapolis 500 auto race
* Louis Meyer wins (1st report)

The sport's section (page 29) has a banner headline: "Indianapolis 500-Mile Auto Race Captured by Louis Meyer as 150,000 Look On" with subheads. (see) First report coverage on the 1928 Indianapolis 500 race in which Louis Meyer was the winner. Always nice to have notable events in history reported in this World famous publication.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 48 pages, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. A little irregular along the spine, nice condition.
