THE LONDON CHRONICLE, England, March 30, 1782 One-third of pg. 7 is taken up with a letter signed in type: A British, and also A real American PATRIOT, which is critical to the cause of independence. A few bits note: "...about our contests with the Colonists, will be a stain and disgrace in our annals, that can never be erased or wiped out...Whether America is a part of the British empire or a free country? If congress & their adherents are rebels, or to be considered as independent?..." and much more. It closes with: "...the colonists may think as they please; a separation will be an irreparable loss to them of a fortress (Britain), that has ever issued forth her strength, to fight their battles, protect their commerce; and more, has ever been ready to exhaust her whole strength in their favor."
Another report includes: "...The three grand objects of the new Government are, 1. To make peace with the American Colonies by granting them Independence...". Also: "The Secretary's Office for the American department is totally abolished...".
Eight pages, 8 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches, very nice condition.
