Page 3 has a nice article: "Lighthouses" noting that: "...the lights of Cape Hatteras and at Shell Castle Island within the bar of Occracock are in operation..." with further details. Also: "Further Particulars of the Loss of the United States Frigate Philadelphia" which was involved in the First Barbary War near Tripoli.
