April 30, 1864

CHARLESTON DAILY COURIER, South Carolina, April 30, 1864

* From the origin of the American Civil War

This was one of just a few newspapers from the Confederacy which actually printed: "Confederate States Of America" in the dateline (see). The front page has a wealth of war-related content including: "Latest Northern News" "Latest From the Peninsula" "From Mobile--More of Banks' Defeat" "From Dalton--News from the Front" "Siege of Charleston" " 'The War & the Democratic Party" "Latter from the Camp in Virginia" "The Breach Widening" and other smaller items. The back page has some Acts from the Confederate Congress but is otherwise mostly taken up with advertisements and legal notices.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a banner masthead, typical from late in the war as most of the paper mills were in the North. Very nice condition.
