August 07, 1890

THE WORLD, New York, Aug. 7, 1890  The top of the front page has a stack of column headlines reporting the very first use of the electric chair for an execution: "THE FIRST ELECTROCIDE" "How Brutal Murderer Kemmler Was Killed at Auburn" "Twice Had the Deadly Current to Be turned Upon Him" "Then There Were Fearful Scenes for Four Minutes" and various subheads. The lengthy article with considerable detail takes 2 columns on the ftpg., all of page 2 and a bit of page 3. The ftpg. has a print of him and one of him in: "The Chair Of Death". Page 2 has a large print of: "the Switchboard and Its Connection With the Chair" as well as 5 other related prints.
Twelve pages, loose at the spine, many small tears at the margins and some minor margin chipping.
A very significant issue on the first electrocution particularly with the related prints.
