DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Richmond, Virginia, Aug. 27, 1864

* Second Battle of Ream's Station
* General Robert E. Lee comments

Not just a nice Confederate newspaper, but one from the capital of the Confederacy.
The top of the ftpg. has: "The War News" with a prefacing paragraph which includes: "...General A. P. Hill...made a successful attack upon Grant's extreme left...in the vicinity of Reams' station. The fullest account of the engagement & victory is contains in the following..." and what follows is a report, included within which is a dispatch signed in type by: R. E. Lee, General (see photos). Other items on the ftpg. include: "Dental Attention for the Soldiers" "The Exchange of Prisoners" "The Deserted Mansion of General Lee at Arlington" which takes over half a column; "Profits of Blockade-Running" "From Mobile" "Telegraphic Reports--Splendid Success at Petersburg" "Latest From Atlanta" and other smaller items.
The bkpg. has the lengthy editorial which gives some discussion to the issue of peace with the Yankees (see for portions). Also on the bkpg. are: "Latest News From the North" "Progress of the Peace Feeling in the North" "More of the Naval Affair Off Mobile" and a few other smaller items.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a one column masthead, typical from the South late in the was as newsprint was very scarce. In great condition.
