January 09, 1862

DAILY RICHMOND EXAMINER, Virginia, January 9, 1862

* Rare rebel publication

Not just a nice Confederate newspaper, but one from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page includes: "Interesting From The North--Notes Of The War" "Current Facts & Rumours" and smaller heads: "Alien Enemies" "Ports of Entry in the Rebel States" "The Army Signal" "Burning of Buildings" "From the Upper Potomac" "Story of a Released Prisoner..." and a bit more.
Page 2 has an editorial which begins: "Some of the wisest men of the South are affected with grave apprehensions on the score of re-enlistments..." (see). Also on pg. 2: "The Calendar of War Rumours" "Yankeedom In Richmond" "The Religious Service of the Confederate Congress" "The Latest Northern News--Movements & Spirit of the War" with a wealth of subheads, including a lengthy letter signed by: S. F. Dupont headed: "The Abandoned Naval Expedition--Letter From Commodore Dupont's Naval Expedition". Page 3 has some small heads including: "Abe Lincoln's Backbone" "Virginia Penitentiary" "Release of a Prisoner" "Pardons, Reprieves, etc." The bkpg. is mostly taken up with various Acts of the Confederate Congress.
Four pages, minor margin wear, mostly nice.
