April 07, 1865

THE PITTSBURGH COMMERCIAL, April 7, 1865

* Confederates falling apart
* Nearing the end of war
* Lee's surrender a few days away
* Abraham Lincoln's assassination a week away

A great issue with a wealth of front page column heads on the closing days of the Civil War as seen in the photos, including: "RICHMOND!" "Deplorable Condition of the City" "THE ROUT!" "The Enemy Fleeing Before Grant's Victorious Legions" "Lee's Army Completely Routed" "End of the Rebellion" "Lee and His Army Reported Captured" and much, much more.
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, large folio size, loss at the bottom margin does affects some words in ads & inconsequential articles, otherwise generally nice. Folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
