August 04, 1890

THE CLEVELAND LEADER, Ohio, Aug. 4, 1890

* William Francis Kemmler
* 1st electric chair execution

The top of the front page has column heads: "NO INVITATIONS YET" "The chances Are That Kemmler's Execution Will Take Place About Thursday" "Arrangements Made by the Metropolitan Dallies to Get the First News Possible" "A Delicate Point of Law Raised by a Well Known Attorney of Auburn" with the text taking most of a column.
William Kemmler has the dubious distinction of being the first condemned person in the world to be put to death by electrical execution which would happen on August 6 (see hyperlink).
Eight pages, irregular & partially loose at the spine, good condition but is fragile & should be handled carefully.

Category: Post-Civil War
