* Very rare Confederate title from North Carolina
Certainly one of the less common titles from the Confederacy, as rarely have I seen it offered.
There is much Civil War reporting in this issue, with a considerable Confederate bias. Among the front page reports are: "The Latest Dispatches From Washington" "The News From Missouri" "Arrest of Citizens of Richmond at New York" "Prizes & Privateers--Loss of the 'Jeff. Davis' " "The U.S. Frigate Congress" "Naval Movements--Supposed to Land Troops On Our Coast" "The Newspaper War in the North" "The Confederate Flag Insulted" and other smaller items.
The front page also has some editorial comment on the war which is interesting reading, bits including: "...the following extract from the Charleston Courier...for two purposes. First, to show the exceeding presumptuousness of the Yankees. They have so long deluded us with wooden hams, wooden nutmegs..." with much more (see for portions).
The back page is almost entirely taken up with ads save for a few "Local Matters". Among the ads is a notice from the "Confederate States of America..." (see), and a runaway slave ad, and one for: "Maps of the Confederates States..."
This issue is complete as a single sheet newspaper with a one column masthead which was common among Confederate newspapers, as every effort was made to conserve printing space as most paper mills were in the North. Some wear at the margins but no disfiguring problems. In very nice, clean condition.
