Not only a nice Confederate newspaper but one from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page has much on the Civil War with items headed: "The War News" which includes reports from various fields of operation; "The Courts" "Consolidation" "The Last Appearance of a Negro Delineator" "Aiding Slaves to Escape to the Enemy" & a few other smaller items.
The bkpg. has the always interesting editorial, this one beginning: "The air is full of rumours; and false ones mainly. Northern papers lately informed us, for example, of a proposal made by the Georgia state authorities to General Sherman, 'to come back into the Union.' That is now discovered to have been untrue from the first..." with much more. Further on in another topic by the editor is: "There is nothing, however, which more clearly proves that the war waged by the North is collapsing than the greater & greater proportion of negro troops lately appearing in their armies..." with more (see photos). Also on the bkpg: "Confederate States Congress" which has among its subheads a letter signed in type by: Jefferson Davis (see photos); "The Virginia Legislature" "Latest News from the North" which has various subheads including: "The Arming of Slaves" and "General Sherman & the Negroes". Other items as well.
Complete as a single sheet newspaper with a one column masthead, typical late in the war as most paper mills were in the North. In very nice, clean condition.
