July 10, 1845

DAILY NATIONAL INTELLIGENCER, Washington, July 10, 1845 Page three has: "Runaway Negroes" which includes: "A large gang of runaway negroes, from Charles county, Maryland, armed with clubs, scythes, &c., passed through the turnpike gate, two miles from this city, on the road leading to Rockville, on Tuesday morning, about one o'clock...When the armed citizens overtook the negroes, they were commanded to surrender, but they refused, and immediately commenced resistance, when it appeared that some of them had pistols, and one of them a gun...".  Another article: "The Anniversary Celebration" reports on the 4th of July in various cities. A small report of:  "Another Alleged Slaver" ship being seized at Rio de Janeiro.
The back page has: "By the President of the United States" notices of land sales in Wisconsin, Ohio and Michigan and Florida, signed in type: JAMES K. POLK.
Four pages 24 x 19 inches, nice condition.
