April 22, 1865

ALBANY WEEKLY JOURNAL, New York, April 22, 1865

* Abraham Lincoln assassination (1st report)
* Ford's Theater - John Wilkes Booth

The entire front page is taken up with a wealth of content relating not only to the assassination of Abraham Lincoln (remember this is a weekly paper so it is the first edition to report the event) but also the closing events of the Civil War.
The first column heads including: "ASSASSINATION of PRESIDENT LINCOLN and SECRETARY SEWARD!" "The President Shot In The Theatre" "Mr. Seward Stabbed I His Sick Chamber" "The Assassins Escape", plus there are other ftpg. column heads including; "The President Insensible and Sinking" "Wilkes Booth, the Actor, Shot the President" "The President Died At 7:22 A.M." "The Death of the President" "(Inauguration of President Johnson" "Official Announcement of the President's Funeral" "Autopsy On President Lincoln" plus much more on Lincoln.
Still on the ftpg. are: "Details of Gen. Lee's Surrender ""The Interview of Lee and Grant" "Capture of Mobile" "Jeff. Davis At Danville" "From Gen. Sherman--The News of Lee's Surrender"  "Further Particulars of the Surrender of Lee" and much, much more.
And the coverage on the assassination of Lincoln & the end of the Civil War continue on pages 2 & 3 as well, including a nice editorial on: "The Assassination".
Four pages, never bound nor trimmed, large folio size, foxing, more so near folds & left side, a few small wear holes deter very little, several discrete archival mends to inside margins. All 4 pages have wide, black mourning rules. The folder size noted is for the issue folded in half.
