February 28, 1846

THE WEEKLY HERALD, New York, Feb. 28, 1846

* Mormons - Mormonism
* Montrose, Iowa

Front page illustrations in pre-Civil War newspapers are quite uncommon, but here is one showing; "The Wonderful Performances of Sands and Children at the Park Theatre" with much text on the acrobat in the caption. Also on the ftpg: "Coast Piracies--The Barnegat Pirates" & "Who Is to be the Next President?"
Page 3 has: "The Mormons" concerning thoughts of them moving west, beginning: "...from 1000 to 1500 Mormons are encamped at Montrose, Iowa, preparatory to marching westward. Some doubt is thrown over their destination, and many believe that they will not go to Oregon or California but stop after proceeding 600 or 800 miles into the Indian country...".
Eight pages, bit irregular at the spine margin, good condition.
