THE GENTLEMAN'S MAGAZINE, London, May, 1759

* French and Indian War
* Nice map of America from Crown Point & Lake Champlain to Fort Edward on the Hudson River
* Foldout map of the war in Germany

A very nice issue from during the French & Indian War with war-related content as well as other news of the day, political reports, literary items, and other unusual tidbits. This was the first periodical to use the word "magazine" in its title, having begun in 1731 and lasting until 1907.

Among the prime articles in this issue is one headed: "Particulars of Major Robert Rogers's Last Expedition Against the Enemy" at Ticonderoga, the report taking over a full page of text (see for portions). Of particular significance is the very nice full page map titled: "A Map of the Country Between Crown Point and Fort Edward" and which is noted on the title/index page as: "A Plan of the two Branches of Lake George, and a View of the Roads from Fort Edward to Ticonderoga, illustrating an Expedition lately made thither by Major Rogers."
Other French & Indian War articles in this issue, as noted in the index, include: "Remarks on the Account of Gen. Forbes' Expedition against Fort du Quesne" (see photos for portions), and within the "Historical Chronicle" section near the back is a letter from Gen. Amherst to the House of Commons (see photos) signed: Jeffery Amherst. Other news from "America" includes items from the Caribbean and the negroes there (see photos).

Included also is a foldout map titled: "A Map of the Seat of War on the Rhine, & parts adjacent in Germany, 1759" which folds out to 8 1/4 by 11 in.

Among other articles noted in the table of contents are:

"Thoughts Upon Comets" "The Present Earth but an atom in comparison wit the Universe" "Ancient custom of burning the dead" "On the Appearance of the comet in America" " & more.

The entire bkpg. is taken up with a chart headed: "Each Day's Price of Stocks in May, 1759".
Complete in 48 pgs. with full title/index page. There are no plates present. Measures about 5 1/4 by 8 inches and is in very nice condition.
