The front page has over a full column taken up with very fine & detailed commentary headed: "The Inauguration" of Abraham Lincoln. With the text of his inaugural address in the previous week's issue, without other inaugural details, this issue concerns itself with the details, including: "...The morning of the 4th opened cloudy with prospects of rain...The ceremonials passed off with great quiet. the crowd, although immense, was peaceful and decorous. Mr. Lincoln, accompanied by Mr. Buchanan, arrived at the Capitol at five minutes past one...The table before which Mr. Lincoln stood was of the commonest description...Mr. Lincoln's manner of reading the Inaugural was singularly effective...He read with great feeling and earnestness...The last sentence of the Inaugural was spoken with great emotion & thousands of eyes filled: 'In your hands, my dissatisfied countrymen, and not in mine, is the momentous issue of civil war...You can have no conflict without being yourselves the aggressors..." ad much more.
