August 08, 1943

THE NEW YORK TIMES, August 8, 1943

* Jewish Holocaust being known for the 1st time
* Nazi-occupied Poland exterminations
* Gruesome details

Page 11 has one column headlines: "2,000,000 MURDERS BY NAZIS CHARGED", "Polish Paper in London Says Jews Are Exterminated in Treblinska Death House", "Groups Slain In Cells", "Steam Is Reported Used to Kill Men, Women and Children at Place in Woods" See images for coverage on the ongoing atrocities in Nazi-occupied Poland where extermination of the Jewish population was most prevalent. Rare to find such reports in newspapers at this time as the reality of the holocaust was just being realized. What better evidence to confirm of what really happened then having a 1st hand account from the day it was first reported. I suspect this is one of the few publications to report this particular event as other titles in our inventory do not.
Other news, sports and and advertisements of the day throughout with much on World War II. Complete 1st section only with all 38 pages, rag edition in nice condition.
