THE MASSACHUSETTS MAGAZINE, Boston, February, 1791

* Creating the District of Columbia
* Early United States government
* President George Washington

The bulk of the issue is taken up with a wide range of eclectic articles as noted on the full title/contents page. A few include: "The Power of Beauty" "Description of Cape Cod & the County of Barnstable" "A Curious & Picturesque Description of the Icebergs, or Glaciers, of the Frozen Ocean" "Picture of Jamaica" "The Absurdities of Genius" "Description of the Grotto at Swatara" near Philadelphia, and much more.
Near the back is: "Abstract of the Proceedings of Congress" at Philadelphia, which mentions in part: "...that they have passed a bill for erecting that part of Virginia, called the district of Kentucky, into a separate state and for admitting the same as a member of the Union..." and so much more, taking over 5 pages.
But the most significant item is the full page: "Proclamation" signed in type by the President: G. Washington, in which he formally creates the District of Columbia, where the federal government would build its home (see).
Also included is the: "Domestick Chronicle" which has the latest news reports of the day
Complete in 72 pages, full title/contents page, lacking the plate called for, very nice condition.

Eighteenth century American magazines are increasingly scarce in today's market. This title was published by the famed Isaiah Thomas, the patriot printer from the Revolutionary War & founder of the American Antiquarian Society.
