June 08, 1861

THE DAILY JOURNAL, Wilmington, North Carolina, June 8, 1861  A nice feature of this issue is the printing of: "Confederate States of America" in the dateline. The entire front page is taken up with ads.
Page 2 has various news reports including one item which notes: "Among the appointments by the President, (Lincoln) we find the following: John H. Peters...This is a specimen of Lincoln appointments. This man Peters is not of South Carolina but was one of Georgia having resided some time in the Georgia State Penitentiary. He is known here as a most infamous scoundrel..." (see).
Other items on pages 2 and 3 are headed: "The News" "Effect of the Blockade & Privateering on Commerce" "Gen. Beauregard's Staff" "Abolition Intimidation" "Waterproof Cloth for Soldier's Overcoats" "A Conquered People" and more.
Four pages, a few archival mends to inside pages are almost unnoticeable, otherwise in very nice, clean condition.
