DAILY EXAMINER, Richmond, Virginia, Jan. 6, 1865

* Backing the Confederacy asked for

A nice newspaper from the capital of the Confederacy. The front page has: "The War News" has much on General Hood & his army (see). Other ftpg. items include: "Prisoners of War in Richmond" "Clothing for the Yankee Prisoners" "Lamentable Fate of a Gallant Soldier" and other items including "Resolutions From the Army" which is a reaffirmation to support the Confederate cause, bits including: "...renew our vows of allegiance to the Confederate States of America...affirm that it is our steadfast determination to prosecute the war with the most untiring zeal...That we view with the utmost abhorrence the idea of arriving at a settlement if our difficulties by sacrificing slavery..." with more (see).
The back page has the always interesting editorial, this one including: "...It is not yet clear...what particular piece fo Yankee villainy & treachery lurks under the unofficial visit of Blair senior & Blair junior within our lines...". The bkpg. also has much reporting from the "Confederate States Congress" and also "The Virginia Legislature". Also on the bkpg: "Additional From the North" "Affairs at Nashville" "Confederate Agents at Camp Chase" "Lincoln's Despotism in Missouri" and a few smaller items.
Complete as a single sheet issue with a one column masthead, typical from the South late in the war as most of the paper mills were in the North. Very nice, clean condition.
