THE WAR, New York, April 26, 1814

* Battle of Longwoods
* War of 1812

The front page has: "Repeal of the Embargo Law - An Act" which is signed in type by the President: James Madison. The balance of the ftpg. is mostly taken up with: "Official Account of the Battle Near Detroit" which is the Battle of Longwoods. Beginning on the ftpg. & concluding on pg. 2 is: "British Account" of the Battle of Longwoods with a list of killed, wounded & missing.
Other content within includes: "Great Victory Over the Creeks" which includes a letter signed: Andrew Jackson and one by: Thomas Pickney. Also: A letter from Maj. Gen. Wilkinson to the sec. of War" from Lower Canada. "British Official Account--General Orders" which takes half a page, and "Retaliation Report, "Summary" and "The Enterprise and Boxer".
Four pages, 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 in., never-trimmed margins, light damp staining, good condition.

This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.
