December 17, 1862

THE NEW YORK TIMES, Dec. 17, 1862

* Battle of Fredericksburg, Virginia
* Civil War original reading w/ map

A very nice issue for display as the front page features a large Civil War map headed: "The Scene Of Saturday's Action" which shows a close-up of both the Union and Confederate batteries near Fredericksburg (see). Although Civil War maps are not extremely rare, maps which show positions of troops or batteries are.
Among the first column heads are; "From The Army of the Potomac" "Evacuation of Fredericksburg by Our Forces" "The Army Again on the Falmouth Side of the Rappahannock" "The Movement Executed with Success" "Full Description of the Terrible Battle of Saturday" and more. The second column has: "The Battle of Fredericksburg" "Full & Reliable Details from Our Special Correspondent" with the balance of the ftpg. taken up with the detailed report, & carrying over to the bkpg. as well where is included a very lengthy list of "The Killed & Wounded"
Complete in eight pages, nice condition.
