THE WAR, New York, Dec. 12, 1812

* USS United States vs. HMS Macedonian
* USS Wasp vs. HMS Frolic

Over half of the front page is taken up with a: "...letter from Capt. Jones, late of the U.S. Sloop of War the Wasp, to the Sec. of the Navy..." signed by him in type: Jas. Jones. This report details its capture by the Poictiers after being damaged in a battle with the British ship Frolic. The balance of the ftpg. is taken up: "Brief Sketch of the Seat of War" with many War of 1812 reports.
More war reports inside including: "Court Martial" "Employment of the Indians" "Louisiana" "War, Recommenced" "Another Brilliant Naval Victory" concerns the capture of the Macedonian by the U.S. frigate United States; plus even more.
Four pages, 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 in., never-trimmed margins, very nice, clean condition.

This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.
