November 14, 1812
THE WAR, New York, Nov. 14, 1812 Most of the front page is taken up with the: "Letter from Capt. Elliot to the Sec. of the Navy..." datelined at Black Rock (near Buffalo), reporting on the capture of the British ships Detroit & Caledonia. Other war content inside includes: "Affair at St. Regis' "March of the Volunteers" "The War by Land & Sea" "Naval & Marine Memoranda" and more.
Four pages, 9 3/4 by 12 1/4 in., never-trimmed margins, very nice, clean condition.
This is a fascinating, short-lived newspaper, having begun in 1812 with the exclusive purpose of reporting on the War of 1812 (hence the title). When the war ended, so did this newspaper.
