THE NEW YORK TIMES, January 3, 1939

* Rose Bowl: Southern California Trojans USC vs. Duke Blue Devils
* Orange Bowl: Tennessee Volunteers vs. Oklahoma Sooners
* Sugar Bowl: Texas Christian T.C.U. vs. Carnegie Tech

This 56 page newspaper has a six column headline on page 20: "91,000 See So. California Topple Duke in Rose Bowl" with subheads, stats, lineup and related photo. Lots of text, too much to photograph. Also reports on the Orange and Sugar Bowl games.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. This is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Nice condition.
