March 09, 1930

NEW YORK TIMES, March 9, 1930.

* Babe Ruth contract w/ New York Yankees
* Best title to be had ?
* President Willaim Howard Taft death

The front page of the sport's section has a one column heading: "BABE RUTH ACCEPTS $160,000 FOR 2 YEARS" with subheads and a two column photo of Babe Ruth shaking hand s with New York Yankees Owner, Colonel Ruppert . Great to have in this famous New York City title.
Also in this same issue is a nice front page 1st report on the death of President William Howard Taft. The headline reads: "EX-PRESIDENT TAFT DIES AT CAPITAL, SUCCUMBING TO MANY WEEKS' ILLNESS, FIVE HOURS AFTER JUSTICE SANFORD" with many subheads and nice photo of Taft.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in a thick 100+ page Sunday edition, this is the rare rag edition that was produced on very high quality newsprint, with a high percentage of cotton & linen content, allowing the issues to remain very white & sturdy into the present. Given the subscription cost, libraries & institutions rather than individuals were the primary subscribers of these high-quality editions. Minor margin wear, very nice condition.
