November 15, 1946

THE NEW YORK TIMES, November 15, 1946

* Joe Paterno at Brown University (college football)
* Ted William wins AL MVP

The sport's section (page 32) has a six column headline : "Williams Named as Most Valuable in American League" with subheads that include: "BASEBALL WRITERS HONOR OUTFIELDER" and more with a nice action photo of Ted Williams.
But what I found on the same page is truly amazing. There are one column headings that read: "PATERNO SELECTED AS BROWN STARTER" "Brooklyn Boy Named to Left Halfback Post...." See image for text on the former head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions at his beginning. See photos for text on what could be the only mention of him during this time in any newspapers. Probably only found in this title since he was from Brooklyn.
Other news, sports and advertisements of the day. Complete in 48 pages which is the desired "rag edition" which used very high quality newsprint meant for libraries at the times, in great condition.
