June 06, 1889

MEMPHIS APPEAL, Tennessee, June 6, 1889  Over half of the front page is taken up with reports on the Johnstown Flood with first column heads including: "HARD WORK" "This is the Johnstown Watchword" "It Will Take 10,000 Men Thirty Days to Clear the Streets" "One Thousand Funeral Take Place in the Little City" "No End to the Dead Bodies Recovered from the Mud "And Assert That the Loss of Life Will Reach 15,000" and more. In actuality the total death count was 2209.
Complete in 8 pages, toned with browning at the margins, some dirtiness at a ftpg. fold, otherwise good. Issue is fragile & must be handled carefully.
